(Belief in an Illusory Star God)
Circle: 凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong)
Vocals: Φ串Φ (Kushi)
Arrange: RD-Sounds
Lyrics: RD-Sounds
Album: 彁
Event: Comiket 97 (2019-12-31)
Original track: 秘神マターラ ~ Hidden Star in All Seasons.

This was undeniably the hardest song I had to translate in a while, even harder than “To Heavens”. As you can see, huge parts of the lyrics are written only in hiragana, so I based most of my interpretation of this song on both Okina’s background in Touhou as well as who the mysterious buddhist God, Matarajin was (which there is not a lot of information about, hence all the secrets and concealed things). And just as the actual God, Okina is a mash-up of various gods, including the God of Stars.
The song seem to regard being born under an unlucky star and how Okina’s identity is in itself unfortunate, despite bing the God who controls the stars as well.

KANITAMA‘s article proved to be of huge help in the making of this translation – it is definitely not the best one that could possibly be made, but it was definitely the best that I could give. Hopefully more of them come soon so we hopefully gain a better insight on this text.

ゲニヤサバナム seems to be some kind of chant to disperse evil spirits.

hito no ko mina mina mai odoru ga ii
tatoi ikanaru hoshi no moto ni are domo

Oh, all children of men, dance, dance as you please
No matter which star you happened to be born under

izuko izuko yori kite mo
sore de izuko he mo yukenu

No matter, no matter where you came from
Now, you cannot go anywhere

hoshi no hoshi no sadame nareba
sore ga nanji ga shuku nari

If such, if such is the star’s fate
Then when shall your blessing come?

kaku
shitagau mono wa
matsurou mono wa

Thus
All that obey
All that worship

dare ga sore wo nozonde wa
sore no izuru hoshi no shita

Who might’ve wished for that
To be born under such a star

hise yo saredo matsuru nakuba
geni mo sawari wa nasaren

Conceal it, if you do not worship me
Indeed, you must not touch upon it

sou urami mote kaku wa
osore mote kaku wa

Yes, bear that malice!
Oh bear that reverence, as such is

omae no hoshi

Your fated star

nagarete maji wareba
hito to shite inochi wo mochi
umareta mono wo naze

They are washed away banished, and meet together
As a human blessed with life
Who had been born, why is it that

hedatete seowaseru
sono kabe no atte nao agameru nara
kami tomo kami to

We are burdened by that separation
And we worship that barrier now
As a God of all Gods…

izuko izuko mo shiranedo
sore ga aru toko wa shireri

I may not, I may not know where
But I am certain that place exists

hoshi no hoshi no o-wasu nareba
sore ga nanji ga shukunari

If such is, if such is the will of the stars
Then when shall your blessing come?

kaku
toutoki mono yo
ate naru mono yo

Thus
All that are dear to me
All that are trustworthy

dare mo sore wo nozomazu mo
sore ga hoshi dearu naraba

No one might’ve wished for that
But if such are the stars…

geni mo osoroshiki yo ni mo
hishite sawari naki koto wo

Indeed, it is a fearsome world
And I conceal what I don’t want to be touched

sou agamete yo kaku mo
motomete yo kaku mo

Yes, worship me!
Oh yes, yearn after me, as

omae ga hoshi

You are a fated star

nagarete majiwarazu
kami to shite na wo motazu ni
umareta mono de sae mo

They are washed away banished, never meeting
Even though as a God, I had been born
Without a name

sono na wo seowaseru
sono kabe no atte nao agameru no ka

I have to bear this name
And we worship that barrier now…?

tooku tooki sekai ni mo sono hoshi wo imada
subete wasurerare wa sezu ou to iu nara

If in a distant, far off world, I am still bearing
That fated star, never forgetting about anything

tooku tooki sekai ni mo sono hoshi mo mata
subete wasurerare wa sezu kagayaku no darou!

If in a distant, far off world, never forgetting about anything,
That fated star, is still shining…!

tsuyoku mo tatsu ga ii
koko koso ga omae tachi ga
ikiru yo dearu naraba

Now, stand strong!
This corrupt world place
Is the one you live in, after all!

seou wa sono hoshi wo
soshite kono yo ni narabi tatan koto wo
kami sae kami tote

I bear the burden of that fated star
And all of the things in this world
Despite being a God, because I’m a God

かくて

Like this,

kami tomo kami to

As a God of all Gods…

  1. Hi nazohato!
I’m so glad you read my article.

「神とも神と」 is quoted from a poem read by a certain person when Kawakatsu Hata defeated the god of eternity.
      * According to one theory, Kawakatsu Hata s identified with Matara-jin.

Uzumasa ha kami tomo kami to kikoekuru tokoyo no kami wo uchikitamasumo
(Katsukawa Hata is called the God of Gods, because defeated the God of eternity.)

「神とも神と」means “the God of Gods”, and “some kind of chant to disperse evil spirits” is not 「神とも神と」, but 「ゲニヤサバナム」.

I’m sorry to make you confused.
